Continuing with the Taphophile Tragics meme, today features the Chapel of Memories. Oakland Daily Photo introduced some people to the word columbarium a couple of weeks back. To reference that, I went to the Chapel of Memories Columbarium and Mausoleum. It's next to Saint Mary's Cemetery, very near Mountain View Cemetery and Chapel of the Chimes.
More Taphophile Tragics from around the world.

Great slide show!
Somehow, I never thought of this place as being a separate entity from St. Mary's until maybe two weeks ago. Your slideshows are always so interesting. I've pt it on my "to learn" list.
That's a very modern columbarium
It's small and modern, so not nearly as interesting as St. Mary's Cemetery next door or Mountain View Cemetery next door to that. Both of those have their own mausoleum sections, plus a fair number of family mausoleums, and both are much older. So this was somewhat interesting, if only for the contrast.
This is something that I ride my bike by all the time and always mean to explore, but I've never gotten around to it. Great photos! You've inspired me to make the trip sometime soon.
You missed the best part. The inside. Fantastic dome, elagic stone angels, art deco beauty. Much, much more than the outside.
Definitely sounds like it's worth another visit!
ooo, yes Gene, if you can manage it: another trip for the art-deco inside. some of the architecture of the chapels in cemeteries is so very umm ... 'wierd'. I love it!
This is another of the 'high school locker room' variety of columbariums. I have not found any like that as yet around where I live - or, indeed, in wider Australia. We tend to have brick walls. I will try to work up some images for next week.
Human beings are strange creatures. We moved from wanting to be buried to wanting to be cremated. However, there is now just as much rigmarole with the cremation process as with burial. And cremation storage is taking up nearly as much room as to be buried.
Thank you for your ongoing interest in Taphophile Tragics. I hope you enjoy the variety of posts as you travel around our community.
